[locustream] Reveil 24 hour broadcast 5 to 6 May 2018 - call for streams

Dear all Sorry for cross-postings. On International Dawn Chorus Day over the first weekend in May, soundCamp will coordinate the 5th crowd-sourced radio broadcast of sounds of daybreak, starting on Saturday 5th May in the early morning London time and running for 24hours until Sunday 6th. The mechanism for a continuous live daybreak loop was pioneered via the Locus Sonus network by Ragnar Helgi Ólafsson and Páll Thayer in 2010. Since 2014 we have given the loop an ecological twist, listening out for human and non human points of contact. Reveil brings open microphones on the Locus Sonus soundmap together with hydrophone observatories, aircraft intercepts and webcam grabs, but the core of the broadcast is here. [locustream] Is https streaming possible?

Stef: Good luck with the performance. Pond Station should be broadcasting at showtime but it will be playing its "interval signal" during soundcheck (since it will still be dark in New York). A question for anybody who knows: Is it possible to configure the server to serve an encrypted stream? I can't directly embed my locus stream on my website after I set up my webserver to force https connections. (This avoids "mixed content" warnings from browsers.) Has anybody else done this? Also, I have lots of experience with solar powered streaming, but in my case I'm cheating: I have a building about 100 meters away, so I use a hacked 5.8gHz AV transmitter and directional antennas to bridge the gap. There's a locus sonus Raspberry Pi streambox inside to handle the rest. I imagine that a mobile wifi bridge "mobile hotspot [1]" and Pi streambox would work for truly remote setups, but power consumption is high and the bandwidth costs for the mobile SIM would need to be managed by scheduling the stream for certain hours each day. It's a mountain that I haven't needed to climb but I'm very intrigued! Dear Pure Data users, A few month ago we annonced the upcomming release of the locusamp objet, and here it is! http://www.locusonus.org/pd/ <http://www.locusonus.org/pd/> Available as a beta version running on macOS, it will be ultimatly released for Linux, Raspberry Pi and Windows. Locusamp is a Pd external that can read all sorts of live audio streams, from a url or a file, support many formats ( Vorbis, Mp3, Opus, AAC, WAVE, AIFF, FLAC, WebA et Au), and adapt to the bitrate and samplerate of the source material, up to 64 channels.
