Dear all Over 6 to 7 May we will be running the 10th edition of the Reveil daybreak broadcast, for which subscribers to this list create the great majority of the live streams. Streambox security

Hi all, Are there any recommended, additional security measures that one should take when using a Streambox? Mine is up and running, and now able to run on wifi as well. I just want to make sure that I'm making the connection as secure as possible. Thanks! -R

TODAY (Aug 1): "Fast Slow Radio" on Radio Art Zone

Hello fellow streamers. Just a heads-up that my Fast Slow Radio [1] project will be broadcast today via online stream (and local FM if you happen to be in Esch, Luxembourg). Several of the source recordings came from streamers on the Locus Sonus Sound map. The 22hr broadcast begins at 12 noon UTC (8am Eastern USA). More info here. [1] Fast Slow Radio presents 22 sonic impressions from locations around the globe. It was commissioned by Radio Art Zone, a 100-day radio art station for Esch2022 (EU Capitol of Culture), which will be broadcast in Luxembourg by Radio ARA on 87.8 FM and around the world via online broadcast partners. _Each 60 minute section is an "audio time-lapse" combining thousands of chronological audio samples collected during a 24hr period. Fast Slow Radio combines the glacial pacing of Norwegian "Sakte-TV" with the constant change of Luc Ferrari's "Presque rien No. 1"._ _When long recordings are time-compressed, slow changes become audible, like the hidden movement of plants revealed by a time-lapse film. This way of listening helps me appreciate the more-than-human patterns around me. When listening at this speed, nothing is static: The "constant" hum of the city changes timbre as rush-hour approaches. Underwater recordings reveal the diurnal cycles of insects or the ferry schedules of a metropolis. Another question Zero Pi W + IQaudIO + elektrets: annoying clicks/noise

Hi Dear Locustreamers, Since a while I am trying to get a good quality out of the combination of a Zero Pi W with IQaudIO card I am running it over my wifi net since there is no phone connection anyway in many places around And for testing I run it on the normal electricity grid.. but I will make a battery/solarcharge unit soon… So, I had no problems configuring the thing like indicated on the locusonus website, it is really neat and easy and well documented (Thanks for that! Beautiful!) Also the file “Streambox-Off-grid-with-IQ-Audio-Code-Zero-and-solar-Summer-2021” was helpful… The system itself is running quite stable for a couple of weeks now, but I am having major problems with the electret microphones But when I connect any electret microphone pair to the stereo plug, there is an annoying digital rhythmical click/tik/noiseburst in the sound I tested some self-built pair and also a pair I bought some time ago, the EM272 microphones are fine and are by themselves providing a clear sound And not so much noise.. compared to the built-in MEMS which are rather noisy! But these rhythmical clicks are quite bad and irritating after a while! (I think Golo is on this list too and he is having the same problem, He thinks it has to do with interference from the modem But mine is really far away.. and moving closer or further does not change anything to it… ) Now, I played around a little and noticed that when I change input to the MEMs the digital click is still there until I disconnect the electrets… Actually when I simply plug a minijack without cable in the connector, I hear the clicks again! Finally, I was thinking of streaming binaural, and connected a HR-VR zoom line output to it with a minijack, and … THE CLICKS ARE GONE! So now I am wondering what the solution could be… I am not an engineer or have any of these skills, but first I thought it was the ADC on the card That was doing the bad job, but since it is working perfectly with a line in from the H3VR (btw - the binaural stream adds a nice spatial aspect), Maybe it is the signal itself from the electrets and how it is handled on the IQaudIO - do I need to solder resistors and capacitors between pins or what can I do? REVEIL / SC9 — after

Dear List Thank you to everybody who contributed to the ninth edition of Reveil, as a streamer, broadcaster or listener, by setting up a sound camp or creating a live project. Special thanks to Stéphane, Renaud and all at Locus Sonus, with the support of Creacast, for work on the Icecast server so the broadcast ran smoothly for the full 24+1 hours. Towards 2023, we are thinking about the archive of ephemeral sounds accumulated over what will be 10 years of these activities, and how the Acoustic Commons network can be further imagined and supported. It is a privilege for us to be part of these collective works at the start of May each year. As always we welcome your thoughts on what should be kept and what needs to change. This could be a good place to have those discussions and / or, if you find time, please consider answering some of these six questions <https://forms.gle/nuGD8CCnEAMT8x52A>. live stream tonight

Hello, I’ve left my streambox in Highgate Woods, North London. A lovely old piece of ancient woodland with a lot of birdsong, though now it’s quietened down for the night. The odd sound, a breeze in the trees and distant planes and traffic and trains. http://locus.creacast.com:9001/london_wildmic This is a bit of an experiment to see if the stream will run reliably. I had big problems last Friday night / Saturday morning in a different location with the stream going totally offline after a few hours. And when it was online there was em interference and it seemed to dropout every 30 seconds or so. I think the cause was leaving it in an area of poor reception though my phone read two bars of 5G when I left it. And there is a question: I assume that if there is 5G there is also 4G (which my SIM card receives). But maybe that’s a problem ? Tonight I left it in a location of 3 bars of 5G. It seems more stable but went offline about 30 minutes ago - ‘not found’ - and then came back again. At least it seems to be able to log itself back on. And sometimes the stream stops and I have to reload the url. I’d be interested to know what anyone thinks in regards to where the problems lie. Is it a 5/4G discrepancy, local connectivity wavering, or even the server ? Hopefully it will last the night, the sounds of dawn I imagine will be beautiful. Thanks, Jem
