dear streamers, if you're planning to upgrade your raspberry pi to latest Raspi OS (Debian 12 / bookworm), be aware that it may completely break your sound system. Just have spent hours to debug two Debian 12 based installs from https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/, one was working, the other not. Difference between both was the kernel version, the working one is < 6.6, the broken one above that version. Unfortunately that comes with a simple system update/upgrade. So watch out and save your time for more pleasant activities ;) U.

Thanks Udo,
It’s really useful to know.
I see there have been a few bug reports submitted e.g. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218409 Links in Comment 14 seem to suggest a way forward…
best, Julian

hi Julian, yes, hopefully... there are widespread complaints about no sound in bookworm/deb12, but they are pretty inconsistent. I've now downgraded everything Debian12 (on raspberries) to the legacy image, i.e. deb11-based / Kernel 6.1.21. It still gets support, so all fine for a while. U.
