Dear Locustreamers,
I'd like to inform you of World Listening Project's effort to hold the first World Listening Day on July 18, 2010 (R. Murray Schafer's birthday). Dan Godston is the main organizer for World Listening Day. I've attached a Word file about the event. Dan can answer specific questions.
I have attached a pdf explaining the purpose of the event and how you may get involved. (Hopefully the lisserv allows attachements.) World Listening Day is open to a variety of actions and interpretations. Happily, we have a growing list of interesting people who are participating.
Finally, I'd like to emphasize that we have no one in Africa participating yet. Perhaps KRN in Dakar and Emeeka in Lagos can do something foe World Listening Day. What do you think?
Sincerely, Eric Leonardson Director, World Listening Project Founder, Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology
Dear Eric, i got an email from Dan Godston on this. I'm currently traveling and i'm not sure i would be back in Lagos by 18th July. But since i can't pull off the live sound stream yet (even if i'm back in Lagos by then), i would be considering a listening party based on field recordings. Best regards Emeka

Be careful the use of the Pd patch is temporary, the best and stable solution is the use of a streambox.

If you've got any problem, post a message to the list.

I have a question regarding streamboxes.
I registered with Locustream a while back, but have yet to set up a stream. In fact, I've lost my credentials.
I have been running a stereo stream from outside my house for almost a year, which can be found at http://fx.pdaudio.net:8888/outside.ogg.m3u using a set of Behringer XM8500 dynamic microphones on a stereo bar through a Yamaha MG124C console, and an old Phonic PCL3200 compressor, all spare stuff that I'm not using for anything. IT provides a pretty nice stereo image, and withstands weather better than it should, probably.
I found Locustream, because I wanted to see if anyone was doing similar streams. I started to set things up with Locustream on the same box, but had issues with something (it's been several months now, so I can't remember what the exact issues were. I am totally blind, and had to get help reading the initial setup process. Although it's console-based from what I remember, and those are usually pretty easy to work around, I had issues with this one. My question is: do these streamboxes support stereo input from an external source? For that matter, does Locustream itself support stereo streaming? My residential bandwidth is pretty limited. My stream is currently going to a server in a datacenter full time,) and I would run out of headroom pretty fast with two streams running.
I would like to put something up on Locustream, but at the same time, I don't want to lose the stereo image. If this is the easiest way while keeping my existing infrastructure, I'm all for that.

Hi Patrick
the better is to follow the guidelines in order to first register your stream on our server and to use the pd patch (see the url into the former message I sent to Miguel), before receiving a streambox. But you must stream on our server in order to be automatically recognized on the locustream soundmap.
if you've got any pb, please post to the list.

Hi:
Yes, I did realize this all before, and registered/initially set up stuff with PureData several months ago, though I never completed it. At the time, stereo streaming was not an option, and I wasn't sure if things have changed since then.

Hi
The system is not currently configured but this could be a next option. It's easy to modify the Locustream pd patch in order to send a stereo stream. But if you want, we can begin with a mono stream you can emit and update step by step to a stereo stream.
ok ?

Thank you to all of you for all your efforts! Nice to see your orange buttons appearing on the map. We made the tests in the exhibition place and it works well APPART from the sound that when it is amplified is too low.. Could you put your sound a bit up please? Thank you very much in advance. Anne
