I'm not entirely sure what the target bitrate is, but let's take 64 kbps as an example. With ogg, it's usually not CBR, but let's assume it is for estimates.
Assuming 64 kbps, that's about 28.2 Megabytes per hour, or about 675 megabytes per day. A month with 31 days of continuous streaming at that bitrate will consume roughly 20.4Gb.

In my experience the monthly download (from running a 24/7 open stream from the server) is around 30 GB. Some of the streams are stereo, and some at a higher bitrate so this number might go down if settings are adjusted for lower quality.

Out of interest, has anyone looked at Opus for low bitrate streams? You can get some incredible results even at 16 to 32 kbps, technically even in stereo at those low bitrates, though the stereo width is narrow until you get above 64. The lower the bitrate, the more collapsed the stereo image.
The size-to-sound ratio is even better than AAC Plus, and definitely better than Ogg, although Opus isn't as widely supported for playback.
I recently did a 2.5 hour Opus stream from a commercial flight at 32 kb/sec just to see if I could hold it, and it worked well enough. This mostly featured radio communication patched into my phone, and I also had a cardioid dynamic mic I could pull up occasionally.
Certainly worth considering for streaming in areas where bandwidth is extremely limited.

These items are all inter-related; there is no free lunch.For me, quality is of primary importance, so this drives up all costs.
Cost definitely rises as one's streamer becomes more remote due to the need for cellular wireless and stand-alone power.The farther away the streamer is, the more power is required to get the stream to a network socket. The use of the wireless infrastructure of a commercial airplane is cheating in that regard. But I understand that scenario as a proof of concept for the possible use of low bitrates.
Having worked in the telecom industry doing testing with a plethora of codecs, I personally don't have much of a love for any low bitrate codecs.But many people like them for various reasons, especially when cost is the major factor.But one gets what one pays for.

Opus is officially compatible with Icecast since, I think, version 2.3.3, which is pretty old now. Yes, Opus is primarily only useful for speech on the extreme low-end of the spectrum (6 to 16 kbps,) but is also just as good for general purpose audio when more bits are added. Just anecdotally, for example, I would compare 32kbps Opus in terms of surface quality to, perhaps, 64kbps ogg vorbis, or 96kbps mp3, at least in mono. In stereo, things get a little trickier, depending on the type of content you're encoding, and how complex the stereo image is. There is a lot of parametric encoding and band splitting going on, as Opus is primarily a hybrid of two codecs, CELT and SILK. The higher the bitrate, the more characteristics of CELT come into play, as SILK was designed primarily for speech. Therefore, with medium bitrates, SILK is used more on the low-end of the audio spectrum in order to save bits and mask encoding artifacts, and it does a great job at that.
What types of examples are you looking for? I can certainly encode a few types of things from uncompressed sources at various bitrates for anyone interested.

Cost definitely rises as one's streamer becomes more remote due to the need for cellular wireless and stand-alone power. The farther away the streamer is, the more power is required to get the stream to a network socket.
The use of the wireless infrastructure of a commercial airplane is cheating in that regard. *:P tongue But I understand that scenario as a proof of concept for the possible use of low bitrates.
Having worked in the telecom industry doing testing with a plethora of codecs, I personally don't have much of a love for /any/ low bitrate codecs. But many people like them for various reasons, especially when cost is the major factor. But one gets what one pays for.

Out of interest, has anyone looked at Opus for low bitrate streams? You can get some incredible results even at 16 to 32 kbps, technically even in stereo at those low bitrates, though the stereo width is narrow until you get above 64. The lower the bitrate, the more collapsed the stereo image.
The size-to-sound ratio is even better than AAC Plus, and definitely better than Ogg, although Opus isn't as widely supported for playback.
I recently did a 2.5 hour Opus stream from a commercial flight at 32 kb/sec just to see if I could hold it, and it worked well enough. This mostly featured radio communication patched into my phone, and I also had a cardioid dynamic mic I could pull up occasionally.
Certainly worth considering for streaming in areas where bandwidth is extremely limited.
