I'm new to Locustream project (my third day) but been streaming audio intermittently on Mixlr. I was able to fix the audio this morning on Raspberry Pi worthy of announcing to local tweet community. The activities around Soundcamp, and sound walks and such are pretty powerful tools to pull the public in and give them a sense of excitement about what sound can be (as a creative medium)...
It's the art establishment that has been pretty slow in adopting anything 'new media' wise over the last 20+ years... But there are some good exceptions, thankfully!

I did reference the connection it would give them to Locus Sonus and events like Soundcamp. Showing them that they can be a part of a growing community helps, I think.
