Join me and fellow sound specialist Dan Godston for the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2...) ’s 2^nd annual wild-sounds walk through Ryerson Woods (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) on Sunday, March 20 from 1-3 pm. We'll hike the trails and listen for ice creaking, migratory birds calling, and other natural sounds signaling spring awakening around us. The World Forum for Acoustic Ecology (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) published Soundscape: The Journal of Acoustic Ecology Volume 14, “Canacoustica: Canadian Perspectives on Environment and Sound” in July. We’re working on Volume 15 and in the process of migrating to a digital platform as well as revamping WFAE’s website. As I begin my fifth year as Executive Director, I am thrilled to welcome Leah Barclay and Eric Powell to the executive team and look forward to working with this dynamic international leadership team.

The World Listening Project (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) will soon publish a program of highlights from 2015’s World Listening Day, an annual day to celebrate and explore our relationship with the acoustic environment. Extending WLP's reach to new communities for World Listening Day 2016 on and around July 18 is a priority. I published four articles this year. Most recent was a 2-part “How to Soundwalk” primer for Land Lines (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) , the blog of Nature Conservancy of Canada. Three journal articles are "Sound and Listening: Beyond the Wall of Broadcast Sound" in the Journal of Radio and Audio Media (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) , "Our Sonic Playground: A Model for Active Engagement in Urban Soundscapes" in the http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2... of Urban Cultural Studies, and "Acoustic Ecology and Ethical Listening," in the http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d... Grebel Review.

For World Water Day 2016 (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2...) , I am curating works on the theme “WATER WORKS!” on March 19 or 20 March (according to time zones). The conference will build on concerns that were central to the WLD 2015 “H2O” theme, July’s Grassland Soundscapes Network's main focus, core inquiry questions posed in the Eco-Sensing and the Soundscape (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) course I taught with Lindsey French at SAIC, and themes to be explored in the upcoming 2016 Balance-Unbalance conference (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) in Manizales, Colombia.

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who hosted me on my European-Balkan tour in May-June, as a visiting artist for ACRE summer artist residency in July, and to Kunstradio (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2d...) for broadcasting my “Coincidence and Control,” in August. In January, I am once again honored to be an artist-in-residence at Ragdale (http://ericleonardson.us7.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=cb00ffcc8ceff2b13b2...) , a non-profit artists’ community in Lake Forest, Illinois.
