Dear All,
A quick reminder that Locus Sonus is taking off to Amsterdam and the STEIM micro Jamboree festival: http://www.steim.org/steim/ microjamboree.html
We will be setting up the long wire, tuner, stream installation (yes I know we're working on a new name) which will be running throughout the festival and the STEIM open days (this coming monday dec 11 through sunday dec 17) in the foyer of the STEIM building.
Those of you who can make it, please, it would be great if you could set up and maintain your streams throughout the period.
We'll try and get video feedback of the event this time.
Thanks and happy streaming Peter (for locus sonus)
PS the Marseille Port stream which was struck by lightning is now back up and running.

Ok, nice! I will try to keep up the stream as much I can. Some downtime during the Nomusic day (13/12) (www.nomusic.org).
Name for "stream installation"? ... I have been thinking some of this since Jerome asked about names for this new field of art in a former message to the group. "Field recording" is kinda accepted word recording things out from the so called field. This also (to me anyway) restricts the mental image to a field outside... which certainly is not the case for many stream situations as also interiour sounds oftn are streamed. Word "phonography" is something I think is more near what we do here. Here we have a word that implies that there is an art behind the action. There is a photographer that shoots the pictures, there is an phonographer that captures the sounds... so my suggestion for "stream installation" is "phonography stream". With that there is also a bigger freedom than for instance "field stream" that I think should be too non-descriptive.
Well, that is my thought on this.
Yours, Björn Eriksson http://ruccas.org/wiki.pl/Miulew

As probably many of you already know there is a place called phonography.org where "phonographers" has some writings, links to works and such. Maybe some of you are already there. Below is some thinking about the word phonography that is posted on the site: http://phonography.org/word.htm

For your eyes and ears:
- the live video stream from STEIM Amsterdam (direct access on the home page of our website)
- the new Locustream map: http://nujus.net/~locusonus/site/streams/map.php
listen to your streams played by our sound installation
enjoy!
here is the name we choose for our installation: Locustream tuner
----------------------------------------------------
Locustream Tuner
Audio streams are captured by open microphones put in place by people who are participating in the project from around the world, these are not playlists or field recordings, simply the local sound environment which is encoded & uploaded in real time.
The installation consists of a pair of wires stretched the length of the exhibition space with a small ball threaded on them. The position of the ball can be altered by the public acting like a tuner, an audio promenade where the user slides there way through a series of remote audio locations.

The Sollefteå/Sweden should be up and running too... now this time inside my house at the freezer beside the kitchen. Maybe I move it around a bit.

KRN:)
Hello Everyone,
The London Elephant and Castle stream is up. It's extremely windy here today so that is the main feature of the signal!
Hope you are well,
Angus and Michael

hello marc,
yes your stream sounds ok. actually a flow of street sounds or urban sounds (train? cars? ...) the spectrum seems narrow with medium and high frequencies, as a drone with medium-freq continuous sounds. Some wind on your mike.
