Dear Jerome, My office has been moved, and things are a bit of a disaster. However, I will attempt to get a new feed going from my temporary space on a very old iMac.
My feed should stabilize after December 8, from a new garden like setting.
Best, Tim

Dear Friends,
We present the Locus Sonus installation during our symposium these next days (Wednesday and Thursday). So it would be great if you can maintain your stream alive this week.
You've got all the infos about this symposium on our website.
Thanks a lot Best Jerome

Hi all
I am getting a bit tired restarting my stream. The patch (and PD) freeze up all too regularly (once a day at least, it seems). I have tried a fixed IP (didn't help) and even installed a clean 10.4 system on the old iMac (500mhz) that is doing the streaming ... ideas? Anyone?
Best, Ragnar Helgi

I don't have any real solution to your problem, but.... We were having problems with Pd 'freezing up' about once a day. As a quick fix I added a loadbang to start the patch, created an alias to the patch and added it to my 'Startup Items' (in System Preferences -
Users) and then set 'Timed shutdown/startup' (in System
Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Schedule...) so that once a day the machine shuts down, waits ten minutes, and then restarts... in turn launching and starting the patch. I'm not sure if that's a option for you, but it's worked so far for us.
The only other thing I can suggest is: have you checked the logs? You can use the 'Console' app (in Utilities) to look at the main system log and the crash reporter... perhaps Pd posted messages, and hopefully they might lead to finding out why Pd is hanging.
Good luck

Thanks for replying Robb. I am quite a fan of "quick fixes" and actually prefer them most of the time to things that other people call "elegant solutions" or similar names. So your elegant quick fix had occurred to me already and is in fact how I have been running things since august: Scheduled-shutdown-startup-early-in-the-morning-openPD-loadbang-et- cetera-kind-of-thing. This worked fine, and it being a quick-fix I liked it, that is until I hooked up an external sound-card recently. It seems PD reverts to "built-in" audio on opening (this might be because it takes a while for the external card to make its presence known to the system? Maybe not?) ... No matter what the reason: I have not found any way to select PD input and output audio sources (such as an external sound-card) other than manually by hand through PD Preferences > Audio. This happens even if they are set as default in the Sound-Control panel in the system preferences. Therefore it would be beautiful to fix the quick fix by finding a way to make PD set the input source to the sound-card in question when it starts up. A double quick fix is two times better than a single one so if anyone has a patch (or any idea bout which object to use) that could do that automatically (inside a PD patch that is) that would be perfect.
All the best and thanks for the advice, r.

If the instability comes from PD, maybe you are better off using ices as streaming client? http://www.icecast.org/ices.php
Best regards, Hans
