dear all,
Daniel, the coder and author of butt https://danielnoethen.de/, will soon release an iphone streaming app for live streaming from IOS devices. It won't be free as butt (and have a different name, due to Apple policies ;-) , but I think it will be worth the few euros. Anyway, he may need a few testers and asked me about. If anyone wants to join the testflight, please let me know.
bests, Udo

Yes we use Butt or ICast2 but as a voluntary broadcaster can not afford ICast2 for all volunteers.

I've streamed a few hours since yesterday, with the new app (it'll be called iziCast) Works great, recognizes my old iPhone audio interfaces (Tascam iXJ2, iM2X) perfectly. Some stream logs here: http://radio.aporee.org/field Udo

dear all,
just to clarify, the butt app (or izicast, as it is called) is not a replacement for the locuscast app! If you want to stream with your phone to the locusonus soundmap, locuscast is THE solution!
The announcement of butt as iphone app for streaming was just out of my excitement, because a general purpose streaming app was missing IMHO. Koalasan is discontinued and iCastPro ridiculous expensive. izicast fills the gap.
Sorry for the confusion, best, Udo

Udo,
I have been looking for just such an app. I have ICast2 but our volunteers are students and ICast2 is too expensive. Butt is great but a laptop in the field is not always ideal. I would appreciate the chance to beta test as I have extensive knowledge of ICast2 and know some of its drawbacks.
John,

thanks very much, Udo
I also welcome more options for streaming, both with Android and iOS
I'm personally a big fan of Locuscast. It made possible some amazing streams this year with both iOS and Android for Reveil, and the map integration is intuitive and compelling
The interfaces for phones still seem quite under-developed. But the recipe: Apple camera adapter cable (or clone) + Zoom recorder (or equivalent) as USB audio interface + Primo mics (optional) is very good and portable.
For Android, OTG cable is possible but less easy to recommend, I think, due to the range of hardware devices. Same with streaming software..
Worth mentioning too 'Cool mic' which Dawn Scarfe found - very easy user interface for Android

my personal favourite for the iphone is the Tascam iXJ2 http://cdns3.gear4music.com/media/5/59274/1200/preview.jpg It's discontinued, if you can manage to get one, take it. Low noise, high gain preamp, 2x mic in mono or 1x steeo, 2x plugin power, limiter, low cut, good sound. Made for the ifon4, but works perfectly with newer models, /w cable or adapter.
Apples camera cable is indeed cool, you can connect your usb stuff to your phone, I've tested Behringer USB-mixer boards, various Recorders in USB mode, etc. bests, Udo

I've been playing around with the test app and I did have a question about the AAC+ support.
Does it turn it on automatically based on the bitrate just like BUTT does?
