Hello all. Several important annoncements:
1/ Locus sonus as been given a new icecast server by a generous sponsor. This means that we no longer have any limit to the number of ogg vorbis streams simultaneously present. We are hoping to expand the project to include as many new streams as possible so please feel free to spread this news and have other people contact us if they would like to get involved.
To stream from the new server please download the new patch here:
http://nujus.net/~locusonus/site/streams/download.html login: lhoosl
You'll find a few new features, you can now enter your streaming data without going into programming mode also we've included some filters so that you have more control over the sound of your stream.
To check that your stream is present on the new map: http://nujus.net/~locusonus/site/streams/mapcreacast.php
To check on the server: http://locus.creacast.com:9001/
As soon as everyone has migrated to the new server we'll switch the map on the website.
2/ Locus Sonus has been invited to set up a stream installation over a longer time period (1 year) at the Musée de Gap: http://www.ia05.ac- aix-marseille.fr/musee/musee.htm. The plan is to hang parabolic loud speakers at different locations in and around the museum each with a different stream so that visitors will experience the sound environment from your microphones either by stumbling on them as they visit the museum or by deliberately returning at different seasons, times of day etc. Our plan is to slowly build up the number of listening spots over the year as more streams become available, however the show is due to start in the middle of june so we're counting on you all (or rather we're asking you nicely) to keep your streams up and running in as permanent manner as possible.
3/ Another generous sponsor, a computer recycling company called micro orange: http://www.microrange.com/ have given us a palette load of PCs which although old, are ideal for running a stream. We are currently configuring them with an ubuntu system and sound cards so if anyone needs a machine to be able to stream permanently, please let us know so that we can plan on getting one to you.
4/ We will be presenting "Locustream tuner" and various perfomance works using the streams at the the festival Bandimages in Bourges for a week from May 7th. It would be great to have as many streams up and running as possible, also we'll be preparing (using the streams) the week before from April 30th.
5/ Some streamers have been using the streams for art art works of their own, we're very open to these initiatives and would like to hear about any which you might be involved in. The idea is to put up links from the Locus sonus website and we are also wondering if we couldn't work some of your stuff into our public presentations...

Hi Peter
We have to admit our stream was barely up before a student requested the computer, and we simply did not have time to sort anything else out. If you could get us a computer we can leave the connection up for how ever long you wanted. The connection is as stable as anything. We are in London though.

For several weeks, a stream named Santa_Barbara(.ogg) by "dano"(?) is playing: http://nujus.net:9001/
Does anyone know how we can contact him (her)? it would be great to switch this stream to the new server creacast, also there are upper case letters in the name Santa_Barbara which our program can't handle...
thanks
jerome & peter
try either Dan Overholt dano@rain.create.ucsb.edu or dano@steim.nl both should work

Hi Björn, Krn
From the error message you sent I would presume that the settings file from the
old version of PD hasn't been replaced (the file which indicates the paths to the various external librarys).
To fix this the easiest thing to do is de-install PD. Run the new installer and then (as indicated in the read me) double click on the file C:\Program Files\pd\pd-settings.reg this sets the paths for the libraries (including ogg vorbis).
Hope this helps
Best Peter

no need for being sorry for sending to list - also heard the news today - the only hope it can bring - is that all these things have another poles - that maybe gets more focussed on what to do - and how to do it - i mean it can sometimes be good to have an enemy - - just sometimes - i should add.

So nice! Now I am up and running with a stream from Sollefteå - Sweden. It really was this double-clicking registry thing that made it! ... and it really seems to run smooth - also on this MBox.

Best Peter

Hi Paul,
I'm running the stream patch on various linux setups or on Mac. I havn't really tested on Windows since I don't have a machine set up, I guess there must be some kind off problem with the ogg vorbis objects...
Is the problem new (since you set up the new patch) or has it been doing this since the beginning? We could post the question to the pd list or ask Olaf Matthes if you have more details of the machine system version etc.
Another option, if the machine is dedicated to the stream is to run dynebolic or puredyne from a live CD that seems to function fine (I had one machine running on dynebolic for 6 months without crashing). Both distributions have PD installed with all the necessary libraries, and you don't have to install anything permanently, they will not however find all sound cards.

best Peter

Hi, now I finally got some time to install the new patch. I didn't replace any of our cheap hardware yet, so you still listen a lot of noise.

Hi Peter
We have to admit our stream was barely up before a student requested the computer, and we simply did not have time to sort anything else out. If you could get us a computer we can leave the connection up for how ever long you wanted. The connection is as stable as anything. We are in London though.

Hi Martin,
We can certainly provide a machine, at the moment we're working on optimising the configuration but that should be done in a few weeks. The question then is how to get it to you. Unless someone is coming down to the south of France, the easiest thing would probably be for one of us to bring it to you (and probably the cheapest with a ryan air flight) this could also be an oppurtunity to visit and find out what you are up to. We could envisage this some time in June.
best Peter

Hi Peter I have everything up & running on a dedicated Mac G4. Unfortunately either pd or the patcher crashes every so often. I'll try to keep on top of it, dutifully restarting the program, but I have no clues as to why this happens. When it has crashed, I look at the activity monitor and see that cpu usage is maxed out at 100%, there are 2 pd applications running. i notice that when i launch your application, 2 items appear on my dock. one is the usual pd icon and the other looks like something else, but identifies itself as pd if i look into the force quit window. Is this normal? the second one is the one that says "pd not responding" in the force quit menu after the whole thing hangs. Anyway I'll try to keep it running by restarting when needed for your exhibition. Best, and do send news of you. Paul On May 12, 2007, at 12:35 AM, peter sinclair wrote:
