Dear streamers from all around the world, The first two stream from the EchoIn project are up since a few days now.You can listen to the directly on the locus srver, and the will show up on the sound map soon.http://locus.creacast.org:9001 StBaume_StMAx is located at the top of the Saint Maximin cathedrale, close the the bells.StBaume_grotte is located in a cave, in the Sainte Baume montain.
These two streamBow run on raspberry Pi, and 3G for network. The microphones are monitoring mics, using phantom alimentation. Sound card are icicle USB sound card from blue microphone.
Pictures and documentation will follow.

Hello, The pi are actually steaming from the sainte Baume. There are currently 3 pi streaming, all on 3G (cellular network) and powered from a wall outlet.
The 2 solar one have some issue: we are experiencing the most rainny / cloudy spring on over 30 years or so (bad luck). Plus, the solar regulator seems to cause some trouble, maybe due to the PWM nature of the battery load regulator, this eventualy end up with bad pi operation, or SD card getting corrupted. A side effect of this unexpected wet weather is that the microphone are so wet the eventualy corode to death. The "bois" one is in this situation right now, it's going to be replace next week. So streaming+3G from the pi is working, but still have a few issues: -they need to be manually turned off and on again every 3 weeks or so, for mysterious reasons (but probably related to the 3G dongle itself, or maybe memory leaks on the PI).
-there is probably a power thing going on: the 5v from the wallwart is stepped down a little through the PI, and end up being more like 4.7V, and this cause the 3G dongle to have bad reception. An adjustable regulated power supply of 5.7V is probably a thing to have on all raspberry PI application, to ensure a straight 5V on the USB bus, and a clean 3V3 on the PI logic. To prevent the 3 weeks reboot on the solar one, and to optimize power consuption and heat dissipation, I put together switched mode power supply (from Murata) with ATtiny85 microcontrolers that turn of power every day for 1 second. The SD cad image will be online on day, along with complete documentation on this great adventure. Best, Grégoire Lauvin

hi Grégoire
thanks for your detailed reply
I have also found it generally trickier than expected using pv solar to power some digital devices which are quite demanding re voltage.
Incidentally, my stream at london_camberwell using osx has tended to drop out periodically over wifi and now over ethernet, maybe because of problems negotiating communication with server - but honestly I haven't been able to find out the reason.
I'm really interested in how you're getting on since I'm looking to revive a project for a 24hr daybreak broadcast which would follow sunrise around the globe. I have long thought of this as something that might be curated on the locus sonus mic network, but clearly it isn't easy getting global coverage of open mics and a pi based streamer might be part of that puzzle..
thanks bw grant

Hi all, The 4th stream from the Sainte Baume Montain is up!This one use a RPI, 3G, but is solar powered, and is very remote. After many tries it looks to be finaly stable, hopfully for good. Enjoy the silence of this very quiet and isolated spot! Greg
Grégoire Lauvin 06 21 19 26 57 www.gregorth.net
these are great
at the moment it sounds very exposed to high wind, now in what sound like fierce gusts, with still pauses and occasional aircraft going over high up
while in the cave there is a constant slight trickle of water on the rocks - isolated from the weather
both at night right now
it is great to see the network moving into new and different locations
thanks grant
