Hi Peter,

I have just added a DXA-10 preamp to the set up and the signal looks better, but i hope its not all noise/static from the preamp but the atmosphere. The other thing is the apt is on a hill and is relatively quiter here then other neighborhoods, plus I think it being Sunday there is less of activities around. I think the morning should be better. Let me know how you find it.

I would like next step to be able to stream sounds from remote locations within Mumbai City. There is national park near by surprisingly within City limits and not accessed by lot of people. It is quite healthy in its bird, flora and fauna population and diversity. It would be quite surprising and rich experience for all listeners to be able to hear that wealth of sounds. For that I would need an independent unit which I leave in the park and it be able to stream sounds. Can I achieve this with help of streambox and somehow getting power source most likely solar and using a usb net connector to create an independent unit, which can stream sounds. If you or other streamers have any thoughts and ideas to achieve this then do let me know.

Again its a great project and hope more people join.

At 9:22 the soundscape here became so full it sounded as if I was listening to a multi-track collage: dog barking, train horn, sparrows, a cardinal, car horns, wheels of the passing freight train, CTA elevated train, people's voices, fire truck and ambulance sirens...

You will be surprised to know that apt where the mic is in the heart of the suburb which has most likely seven million people on its north and seven million on south side of it. But relative calmness of this place is bit strange and surreal.

Cell Phone was indeed something that came to my mind when thinking of sending stream from remote location and I was pretty sure that its been already done somewhere. Please keep me posted if there is development in this regard. i am thinking maybe I can prefabricate a structure for streambox and install it in safe location in the park, which is visited by very very few people and there are parts which are never visited. So it should be possible to find a secure location.

Meanwhile I will start working towards realizing this remote/solar/networked streaming :)

Concerning the question of a solar powered streambox, we have been talking about this for some time and there are several projects which could use this, however I don't think it has got beyond the discussion stage so far. One problem is that if we figure a stream + a solar panel this means putting the whole setup in a secure place where it is not going to get stolen and where it is protected from the elements. this most often means a building (where there is also electricity). Another point is that the streambox needs to access a network so if you are within wifi range you are also (probably) not to far from mains electricity. Of course it is usefull to have a roaming streambox and we have experimented with this, we found the easiest solution was to use (big) rechargeable batterys. The latest discussions have turned more towards the idea of using 3G téléphones (iphone for example) for mobile streams (or receivers), we are working on this at the moment.
