Hi Peter,
I have just added a DXA-10 preamp to the set up and the signal looks better, but i hope its not all noise/static from the preamp but the atmosphere. The other thing is the apt is on a hill and is relatively quiter here then other neighborhoods, plus I think it being Sunday there is less of activities around. I think the morning should be better. Let me know how you find it.
I would like next step to be able to stream sounds from remote locations within Mumbai City. There is national park near by surprisingly within City limits and not accessed by lot of people. It is quite healthy in its bird, flora and fauna population and diversity. It would be quite surprising and rich experience for all listeners to be able to hear that wealth of sounds. For that I would need an independent unit which I leave in the park and it be able to stream sounds. Can I achieve this with help of streambox and somehow getting power source most likely solar and using a usb net connector to create an independent unit, which can stream sounds. If you or other streamers have any thoughts and ideas to achieve this then do let me know.
Again its a great project and hope more people join.

Hi Vijayendra,
I think that your problem is that the input on your mac is not adapted to a mike (you can check this by looking at /preferences/sound the meters should be modulating clearly (around 2 thirds to get a good signal). When running on a pc (like the streambox) the input is adapted to microphone impedence and also provides power for an electret mike. I can see two possible solutions 1/ you find a preamp (go via a mixer or something) 2/ you find a cheap external sound card with a mike input (you can find these for around €20 here in france). A third possibility is that we send you a steambox...

Hi Vijayendra,
I'm happy to learn that we now have a stream from India on the map! I tried listening, at 9:49 a.m. Chicago time, but your stream was off.
I'm not sure how to advise about the mic level. Are you running the streambox?
I'm listening to my stream: http://locus.creacast.com:9001/chicago_westside.ogg
At 9:22 the soundscape here became so full it sounded as if I was listening to a multi-track collage: dog barking, train horn, sparrows, a cardinal, car horns, wheels of the passing freight train, CTA elevated train, people's voices, fire truck and ambulance sirens...
All the best, Eric

Hi Everybody,
I have just started streaming audio from my apt window. It is on the second fl. of an apt building in suburbs of Malad(E), Mumbai, India. Right now the input signal from the mic is quite low for some reason and am figuring out to boost the signal. Please do check periodically and tune in to sounds from Mumbai.
The stream is not on continuously as the net connection here is not steady, sorry for that. Hopefully all the bugs shall be fixed in next few days. But am excited to join the team of streamers and looking forward to further development of this idea.
Thanks,
-- Vijayendra
