Mu microphone is out a window with an audio cable that is wedged under the closing of the window. But of course I don't have any issue or problem with insulation because the climate is mild here. But I hesitated to drill a hole into the wood with adding a insulating material (for instance rubber). I think it's possible to find a simple insulation solution for the hole. My microphone is fixed outside with a hook in the wood of the window in an upper position in order to be protected from the rain and the wind. The audio cable runs to the streambox and I have a long ethernet cable to the DSL modem (15m).

I am hesitant to drill a special hole through the wall in the room where the streambox box is located. I haven't yet found the time to install an extra long network cable from the router through the wall, leading it  to a place where the cable can pass to the exterior of the house.

Being outside also means that exposure to extreme cold, water and ice, and dust could have a negative effect on the operation of the streambox. I suppose this will be a part of the experiment.

we don't provide a down jacket for the streambox ;-)
