hi tim,
we use puredata but you can go with darkice for example.
im aware that there's been some research done with he RPi let's see if we have more info and tips cause my experience with raspbian haven't been specially good comparing with the one-box-no-cables that the alix computer has provided over the years now.
once you install puredata, if you need the pd patch we use, let me know so to send you a copy.

Hello I will be restarting my stream from a new location in Baltimore using a Rasberry pi as my streaming computer. Would you kindly point me to the LocusSonus streaming software for Linux?
Thank you, Tim

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: radio aporee radio@aporee.org Date: Thu, Jan 3, 2013 at 10:22 PM Subject: [Xchange] radio aporee ::: stream
dear list/eners, for the last 6 years, the radio aporee ::: stream has played random selections of the meanwhile 16000+ aporee soundmap recordings (see http://aporee.org/maps/) 24h per day, and some live events here & there.
recently i've (re)started to dig into the possibilities of radio/streaming as a way to re-contextualize, play and present this interesting resource of geo-located sounds and related activities.
so i've provided the stream with "sensors" for "activities", which is something that can be resolved into a piece or series of sounds. for example, it plays recent uploads to the soundmap in time, it senses stream listeners (or users running around with the aporee app) and shifts the sound stream to their actual location for a few minutes. it also scans open microphones from various locations, listens to phone calls, emails etc., other triggers under consideration or construction...
these playful experiments are kind of iongoing exploration of "radio spaces", in terms of time/presence, spatial conditions and a shared listening experience (in opposite to podcasts & downloads).
thought maybe some you may like it: -> http://radio.aporee.org/ let me know if you have ideas (or open mics to include and APIs to exploit) bests, udo
