The H2 is all kinds of noisy if you use it's 3.5mm mic input. Having never played with an LS5, but based on my experience with the LS14, I'd say it's probably a lot cleaner. I'm a fan of the old AT-822. They really found the sweet spot for X/Y stereo imaging with that mic. None of AT's current offerings get it quite right, in my opinion, even though they are superior in terms of self-noise and sensitivity.
I would actually like to experiment with MS miking, but the only way I can do that at the moment is with two variable pattern large diaphragm condensers and a software MS encoder, as I don't have hardware that will do that. Not something I'd want to keep outside as I currently do with my Behringer XM8500 dynamic microphones on a stereo bar. They've been almost completely exposed to the elements for almost four years with no issues.

hi Patrick,
Good to know this is fixed with the LS5 as well. Are you using it's built-in microphones?
yes, and sometimes others too like OKM, DPA4060, AT8022 to. I've used the class audio mode often with the LS5, along with a eeepc for mobile streaming. that always worked fine, for hours. if i find my old zoom H2, i'll give hat a try, also a Behringer Xenyx 302USB, but then i'll probably need an usb hub with power supply. playtime...

Perhaps I will integrate a raspberry pi into my existing setup at some point, replacing this old Pentium III from 1999 that I am using to stream at the moment, using a Behringer UCA-222 USB audio interface from the output of a Yamaha MG102C mixer.

hi there, received my raspberry pi today, installed a raspbian linux, openvpn and compiled darkice, connected a little wifi adaptor and plugged in an olympus ls5 in class audio mode. a first test was quite sucessful. it streams crispy 128k stereo mp3 from the olympus over a private vpn to liquidsoap on aporee.org. cpu on the raspi is 50% ... i've expected way more quirks, this is quite promising. will do more extended test the next days. if can get my 3G/UMTS usb stick to work, that would be indeed perfect, wifi, 3G, lan, stereo audio in, etc., all in this little box, nice. just wanted to let you know, in case someone has a similar plan. bests, udo
