Dear all,I've just set up a Reveil 2020 stream and have a few questions - the first about setting up a functional Reveil stream and the second around Solar Power for creating an 'independent from mains power' streaming device:REVEIL STREAMThe figure for :civil twilight
04:40is to be taken from the 2nd of May and not Saturday 5th May? (I've taken it from 2nd May as per the set up instructions - see attached image.)But, sunrise05:17is taken from the 5th of May?Would it be possible for someone to take a quick look at my stream page and make sure there are no obvious errors and that it will work, please?SOLAR POWERI'm trying to set up a solar powered streambox. It's mainly cobbled together from bits left lying around from other projects or donated so not really planned as such. These are the connections between the different items of equipment I'm using:(24v solar panel) — (diode on +) ------—> (MPPT pcb which can take in 24v and output 12v)—diode——> (12v lead acid battery) ———diode——>(Arduino board (Atmega chip removed) using 7805 voltage reg to drop 12v to 5v) ———> (Raspberry Pi + Cirrus Audio Card)
The arduino is just a stand in - i'm waiting for some 7805 voltage regulators to arrive by post.
I tried a different set up before which worked for a couple of days but didn't have enough power to sustain the raspberry pi over a longer period. With this older configuration the battery and solar panels were matched to 12volts. The new configuration, outlined above, can provide more power but it only works for a few hours and then the Raspberry Pi requires reseting by hand. Ideally, i'd like to realise a set up whereby I can leave the device unattended for a week or more and it will continue to function. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried something similar and may be able to offer advice?

hi Greg,
yes, that's a bit confusing indeed.
but, they are friendly, responsive and open to requests and suggestions.
They didn't even consider to add stereo mic-in to their boards back in 2017, since
only a small group of afficionados is using that feature. ;)
But they listened to our ideas and came up with these 2 reasonably priced boards.
Then it turned out that both have a problem with levels when used with 2 mics in
stereo. That's where this statement below comes from, i.e. the decision not
to advertise the stereo mic-in feature unless... etc.
But from my test with both boards on a Pi3 (Zero soon) I can say that
this difference in levels is matter of settings in Linux/alsamixer config
and (at least for me) no problem. Install on a Pi is easy (no drivers) and they
outperform the cirrus card (which I have too).
Disclamer: I'm not working for them ;) Just happy to have new options
for crispy live stereo on a raspberry pi

Zach Poff:Just to be clear, how did you connect the EM172 pair?
it's a bit confusing.
the codec+ board http://iqaudio.co.uk/hats/100-pi-codec.html
has only one 3.5mm jack, but mine has two. got it 6 month ago from
IQAudio for testing. I asked them today, and they said, that most people
don't need two mics, but in case they would provide another jack on
demand".
So then you would have 2 mono mic inputs, means either a Y-cable or each
Primo in its own jack.
the codecZero board has one 3.5mm jack, which they say is mono, but
actually is stereo. I asked, the answer was:
"I’ve not reached the end of investigation into the different volume on
each channel. So we market it as mono. :-) "
And in fact, I was a bit to quick, you have to set different values in alsamixer
for balanced levels on both cards.
so, what you can hear at http://radio.aporee.org:8000/live.m3u
is a pi3 + codecZero, 2 Primos connected to one stereo 3.5mm jack.
both channels 18dB gain, but slightly different settings
in alsamixer. don't want to spam the list with amixer output...
hope I'm not contributing to the confusion ;)
bests, udo
I see that Mic2 is a mono 3.5mm jack that disables the onboard MEMS, but
where is the input for Mic1?
The guide says "Supports additional (no fit) Mono Electret microphone
(Mic1 right)" (p28)

I have used Pi Zeros for other installation applications but was not thinking about it in this application - however due to the reduced power consumption it would make sense for me to change me entire setup to a PiZero with the IOAudio board and so I am wondering if you have any details on how you got the PiZero working for Locusonus stream
as said, I don't have Pi zero experience yet. What you've listend to is
a Pi3 + the IQAUdio Zero board: http://iqaudio.co.uk/hats/101-pi-codeczero.html
this board is for the pi zero, but obviously works nicely with a Pi3 I
don't have a Pi Zero yet, but will so soon, then I can test how this
performs.
great news is that there is an audio board with stereo mic-in /w PIP,
working with a Pi3, Pi4 and hopefully Pi Zero.
Setup on the actual Pi3 is simple, the board is recognized by the
kernel (Raspbian GNU/Linux 10, Linux raspi3 4.19.97-v7+) without any
driver install needed.
the card is visible by the alsa:
pi@raspi3:~ $ arecord -l
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
card 0: IQaudIOCODEC [IQaudIOCODEC], device 0: IQaudIO CODEC HiFi v1.2 da7213-hifi-0 [IQaudIO CODEC HiFi v1.2 da7213-hifi-0]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
So in a darkice config you can use it like:
...
device = hw:IQaudIOCODEC
sampleRate = 44100
bitsPerSample = 16
channel = 2
...
as soon as I have a pi zero I'll try the board and will report.
bests, Udo
Thanks in advance
Garth
ps. The stream seems quite low gain here in the USA

hi Grant & all locustreamers,
maybe I missed that info, but the IOAudio website says about the
pi-codecZero board (for the raspberry pi zero) that it is mono and
doesn't work with a pi3 etc., and didn't he mention that it doesn't have
PIP / bias voltage available?
anyway, it obviously works great with a stereo pair of Primo EM172.
that means this board together with pi zero would be perfectly small,
stereo and has low energy consumption. I'give it a try with a pi zero
soon.
I'm just listening now, it's quite low noise, better sounding than the
cirrus board. quite cool. check our my backyard within the next hour:
