Hi all,

I use puredata extended with the raspberry pi, mainly just because I know it and can develop quickly.
Anyway the patch I use is almost identical as the official mic patch, I just add more reconnect/reboot and monitoring fonction to suit the 3G instability.

One disapointement with the PI was the impossibility to use both input and output at the same time with PD and alsa. This issue will certainly be fixed soon (I'v seen a effect box buitl around the RPI floating around).

The native sound output is dirty, way too dirty.

I use a usb sound card, and all the one i'v tried work fine,  for both input and output.
For just one usb soundcard power is not an issue since the model B rev 2 (this version of hardaware get rid of the 200ma polyfuse on USB power line).
Actually the all RPi is limited to 0.7A total.

Using a BlueMicrophone icile usb soundcard (providing +48v) with a thonman T-bone monitoring microphone, the quality of the stream, even in 3G, is pretty much very decent.

Just to mention, the last vesion of wheezy debian include a wifi config script. That's promissing but I failed to obtain a stable wifi connection with the dongle laying around. 

My porject including 3G, I use a powered usb hub to power the RPI, and plug all the usb devices I need (usb sound card, 3G modem, the Pi itself but just for power, mouse and keyboard).

My opinion on the Raspberry Pi is that for the price it does the job well. I was able to stream audio with PD-extended and an usb soundcard relatively easily.

But as Alejo mentioned, you always need one more cable with, and the squid like mess ensue…
