thanks for the reply. I am trying to set up the streambox with a wireless connection - as the location that we have in mind makes it difficult to access an open ethernet connection from the university (indeed an open ethernet connection is nearly impossible full stop)

From what i gather, it seems the wireless card in our streambox is quite temperamental, as it sometimes shows available connections, and then does not. Seemingly with a mind of its own. i have tried bringing down the wlan0 and then back up, but it does not seem stable either way. I have been trying to establish a consistent connection to an open wireless network, but have failed.

Is it possible to get a new box sent to SARC? If i cannot get the streambox to work, or a replacement, i will attempt to get an alternate machine to run the pd patch on, which may be the only alternative. Though it would be a shame not to use the streambox.

Hi Robin,

Yes that is correct the pd patch is designed to reboot the machine if it loses the connection. Although this might seem a little brutal it has proven to be the surest way of keeping the streams running.

If reboot happens systematically, I would start by checking that your ethernet wire gives you a connection using another machine.

If on the other hand its happening sporadically I would consult with the network administrator to find out why the connection is unstable.

Jerome et al, could we review this? Are there still electret mics available? Or should we be looking at alternatives like usb interfaces?

I had one more question though, regarding the LocusMic/Electret that i have seen mentioned on the website. Would it be possible to get one of these sent to SARC? It would open up more interesting avenues for mic placement, as at the moment we have a condenser and mini-mixer mic solution, which as you can imagine, is not ideal - especially as we are favouring an exterior mic placement.

On streambox setup: I have found this page of streambox faqs helpful - in fact it is not just faqs but also takes you through the setup procedure very clearly.

There are more general streaming guidelines here too.

9. If you are not planning to use your streambox any more, would you consider returning it so we can re-use it for another stream? We plan on using it.
