Hi Udo

That's too bad. It can happen. I have had some close calls but nothing to that extent.

I have been running a setup that is for recording only but the same setup could be used for streaming too.  The setup has been running off and on since Feb 2019 and everyday 24/7 since March 16 2021.

I might have been fortunate because I am on site twice a day to change batteries and about once or twice a week I move my setup to a different location on the same property.

However, I have had to repair the very thin lav mic  cables that come with the DPA 4060 on two occasions. But it is not clear to me whether they got pinched around small trees and branches (my fault) or eaten by animals.

The main thing I have learned is to keep the cables hidden as much as possible. I use a flexible tubing with a slit down the center that allows me to hide the cable in the areas where it would be exposed. My setup is also fairly large and is on a mic stand. Perhaps with it not being attached to the tree has minimized the animal contact, because there are not many places for them to climb without toppling over.

Here is a picture of my setup:  - https://www.darrencopeland.net/web2/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/absentlistener_boardonstand-1536x1152.jpg

Cheers
Darren

hi Darren,

I have hidden my box in a wooden fence in a Berlin inner city forest.
Last night evil mice were gnawing on the cable and trying to break into the box,
during the day, nasty birds discovered the microphones and were plucking fake fur
from the wind screen, probably for their nests. ;-)
