Damn Cirrus Audio hats playing up for the second year in a row.
Definitely time for an upgrade.

Hello all
I'm sitting here with Covid listening to the amazing stream from Yotoco Valle by Kristian Paul and feeling better already.
We re putting together the programme for Reveil 9, the day-long broadcast we do each year, following sunrise as it circles the earth on Dawn Chorus Day.
This year Reveil will run from 5AM UTC+1 on Saturday 30 April to 6AM on Sunday 1st May.
We put out this call:

As always, the open microphones at Locus Sonus provide the essential framework for the broadcast. We are grateful for your new, long-standing and refreshed streams.
For your stream to feature in the broadcast, it would be great if you could make a page for it from here:
http://streams.soundtent.org/manage/streams
If you have technical queries about streaming, we're happy to add our advice to that of others on this list.
Many thanks and looking forward
Best wishes
Grant

Hi All,
I did some more experiments with my ZERO setup.
I made a construction with a baffle in carboard with of some hot glue.
I also pimped the WM9860 board and removed some items that were not of any use ( pins, connectors ) to make it less high.
It’s now in a fur outside on one of my windows.
The stereo image is a lot better, a bigger baffle is something to think about … but it does not fit in the fur ☹
I am quite impressed by the quality of the little MEMS microphones.
The stream is very stable.

Grtz,
w.
I recently relocated to Dumfries and Galloway and have now set up a new live stream for Reveil 9 from our small holding overlooking Loch Patrick.
http://streams.soundtent.org/2022/streams/utc1_dumfries
Initially the stream was a little quiet so I have increased the gain on the audio interface.
I’m now suddenly experiencing a lot of dropouts from the signal. Is the server just now getting a lot more traffic in the run up to the weekend and everyone is experiencing this problem! Or is the higher gain peaking and interfering with the signal and it’s my problem?
Looking forward to hearing everything over the weekend.
Many thanks
Taylor
...
I made me a second set as backup for next REVEIL
You can hear it at http://planktone.ddns.net:3000/plankradio
It uses a RASPBERRY ZERO PI and a WK8960 audio board.
This board has 2 MEMS microphones
These are used for the stream
I had only to add an extra 1000µF condenser on the 5V ( pin 1&3 ) to get rid of some annoying soft crackling sound.
The RASP runs an ICECAST server & BUTT to stream, but it can probably use the Locus Sonus image too ?
It is now outside on a window in a fur to protect it from wind as test.
I like to add a baffle between the mic’s to get a wider stereo image as the microphones are only 6 cm from each other.
I add a design I have in mind.
It could be a 3D printing project … but I don’t have the tools and experience for that.
But … it’s a fast and easy way to stream something good in my opinion.
Curious about your thoughts …
Grtz,
W.
